Risk Factors Associated with Preweaning Mortality of Barbari, Jamunapari and Jakhrana Goat Kids

Background: High mortality of goat kids due to infectious and non-infectious diseases negatively impacts husbandry. Methods: To study the influence genetic nongenetic factors on preweaning kids, three years’ data (July, 2015 June, 2018) breeds maintained at Indian Council Agricultural Research-Central Institute for Research Goats (ICAR-CIRG) viz. Barbari, Jamunapari Jakhrana was analyzed find effect breed, parity, birth weight, litter size, season birth, sex kid’s age mortality. Postmortem findings as entered in record have been considered arrive cause Result: A rate 2.59% recorded all studied. Mortality found be 2.15%, 3.39% 2.13% respectively. Kids or had no Highest observed born triplet/quadruplet (4.49%) followed by that twins (2.88%) singlets (2.01%). primiparous dams (3.95%) having =/ greater than 5th parity (3.01%) least 2nd 4th (1.82%). Most died enteritis (38.3%) pneumonia (28.3%), debility anemia (11.7%) septicemia (10%) others remaining 11.7% cases.
